Women are the backbone of the Haitian economy. Building on that philosophy, The Women of Milot Entrepreneurial Network (W.O.M.E.N.) builds a path to prosperity through a line of beautifully crafted goods.
Haitian women are renowned for their creativity in quilting, jewelry making, painting and much more. The colorful handiworks they create reveal their zest for success and reflect the beauty of the Haitian culture. With training, support and the right tools, women are able to build their own cottage style business that enable them to earn a real living wage and dream bigger than they ever thought possible. The results are inspiring. Women who were once downtrodden and hopeless are now some of the most highly regarded members of their communities treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.
Each year, W.O.M.E.N. organizes and sponsors training seminars in a variety of handmade crafts for more than 100 women. Those who show promise can become co-op leaders and are given the equipment, tools, and materials needed to set up their own at-home business. Each woman is encouraged to hire others from within her community to help produce artisanal, quality crafts that enable her to support herself and her family.
